The Road Ahead
On November the 4th the US went to the polls and decisively elected Barack Obama as the 44th president of America. However with the county's economy in tatters, recession looming, and thousands of US troops still in Iraq and Afghanistan, the road ahead will indeed be steep. Expectations are high, so how will he fare taking on one of the toughest jobs in the world at a tough time?
Spats and Splits
In South Africa the government is in turmoil. Outraged by the ousting of Thabo Mbeki as the nation's president in September, several high profile members of the country's ruling African National Congress have led a breakaway from the party and hope to challenge its overwhelming public support in next year's elections.
The Right Connections
The image of Azerbaijan as a creaky ex-Soviet state rich in oil and gas is long gone. In recent years the country's economy has been growing at an astonishing rate buoyed by revenue from petro dollars. Now the government wants to diversify and is using that income to create a major IT hub.
Current Demand
With cheap petrol at the pumps over the last decade, public demand for electric cars have been low, but recently enthusiasm has picked up. Developing a mass market electric vehicle has become the industry's hottest contest while others are focusing on the infrastructure needed to keep these vehicles on the road.
Business of Sport: Downhill Demand?
Skiing and snowboarding face a difficult winter as the economic climate threatens to cloud the mountain horizon. The sports are looking at new ways to market to reluctant consumers, so what will the effects of a credit crunch be on our favourite winter pastimes?
