Copper, Iron and Gold: Upper Michigan's Legacy
Copper, Iron and Gold: Upper Michigan's Legacy is a fascinating account of mining pioneers who tamed the Upper Peninsula's wild frontier, a land today that sustains residents generations later.
The story of the early U.P. miners and their families begins in the Keweenaw, where copper was king. Next, we hear about iron mining and the influence it had on building a nation and well as the U.P. The third part of the documentary focuses on gold mining in the U.P. While it didn't boom like out west, the mineral was still mined in Michigan in the 1800s. In the fourth and final segment, iron mining today is compared to its past and the impact it still has on the region.
